Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation
Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) was formed in 1997 for Regional cooperation in 14 sectors including Agriculture. In the first meeting of BIMSTEC Expert Group Meeting on Agriculture Cooperation, 11 projects were identified which were to be coordinated by different member countries. The Second BIMSTEC Expert Group Meeting on Agriculture Cooperation was held in New Delhi from 22-24th April, 2008. 11 projects identified in the first meeting were regrouped into 9 projects out of which India was given the responsibility to act as coordinator for the following 4 projects.
Prevention and control of the trans-boundary animal diseases among the BIMSTEC member countries.
Affiliation of Agriculture & Veterinary Universities and Institutions among the BIMSTEC member countries.
Development of Agricultural Biotechnology including Biosafety in BIMSTEC member countries
Development of seed sector in BIMSTEC member countries.
